Hamilton High School Musicians Win Honors in Band and VoiceThree Hamilton High Schoolmusicians made strong showings in the Region VII band tryouts at Eldorado Sa 111 I'd and one won all-state honors as a vocalist at Brownwood on the same day.Jeanie Gilbreath, a soprano who also recently won all-district band honors on the saxophone, had to forego the band competition in order to be in Brownwood to try out for the All State Choir. She won a place with the All State Choir and sang in concert Saturday night under the direction of Mrs. Dorothy McIntosh along with the othi r winners in the Brownwood com pet it ion.As a winner. Miss Gilbreath will go to Austin the first weekin February for a round of in-♦struction. further try-outs, and finally to sing in a concert with the All State Choir at the Austin Coliseum on the night of Feb. 10.Lynn Olson and Sherry Dodson won places in the All Region Band at Eldorado Saturday. They performed Saturday night with the band urder direction ol Dean Killion, director of bands at Texas Tech. Olson won second chair, bass clarinet in the band, and Miss Dodson won third chair, trumpet.Olson's triumph qualified him for the All Area tryouts at Irving Jan. 20.Robert Smith, another HHSmusician who had won All District honors, competed on the trombone but failed to make the All Region band because of stiff competition. Only one trombone player from this district won the All Region honors.The bandsmen were accompanied on the Eldorado trip by Dave Lewis, Hamilton High School music director.
