SMU coaching shakeup likelyDALLAS — Southern Methodist football coach Tom Ross-ley is planning a shakeup that may cost seven assistants their jobs, including that of the athletic director’s son.Rossley has informed his staff that he plans to retain only offensive line coach Clovis Hale and one other assistant, likely defensive coordinator John Tenuta or offensive coordinatorAT A GLANCEMike Wade, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Thursday.The coaches reportedly on their way out include A1 Gregg, the son of SMU athletic director Forrest Gregg and coach of the running backs and the special teams.The other coaches are Curtis Jones (defense/recruiting), Billy Kidd (offensive line), Tim Lewis (secondary), Rusty Russell (linebackers) and Mike Washburn (defensive line).Other than Hale, Rossley inherited his staff from Forrest Gregg when the former Mustangs coach became full-time athletic director after the 1990 season.SMU spokesman Ed Wisneski confirmed Thursday that “Tom said he is planning on making some changes.”But, Wisneski said, Rossley “has not made a definite decision on how many coaches or whom. He’s going to meet with them before he makes any final decisions.”
