Lincolns of Avon Mark50thW edding AnniversaryAVON—In honor of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Lincoln, an open house was held by their children in their home at Avon Saturday afternoon.Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln were married Jan. 6, 1910, in the Presbyterian Manse at Galesburg by Stuart W. Campbell.The honored couple has resided all their married life near Avon, except for four years, whichwere spent near Hermon and Woodhull. Mr. Lincoln has been a farmer all his life, retiring three years ago.They are the parents of eightchildren who served as hosts andhostesses for the day. Ander- .son, 882 Florence Ave., Tuesday sprayed With gold, circled thegrandchild, all of whom were present.Greeted by GrandsonsAs the guests entered the house, they were greeted by Gary Lincoln, Deen Byerly, Larry Marshall, Donnie Byerly and LeRoy Lincoln, all grandsons.'Mrs. Lincoln wore a dark brown dress with a yellow rose corsage. Mr. Lincoln had a yellow rose boutonniere, gifts of their children.Guests signed the guest book, presided over by LuAnn and Janet Lincoln, granddaughters.Lighted white candles and holders, decorated with yellow roses and a two-tiered cake formed a background for the refreshment table.Decorate TableThe table was covered with a white linen cloth over which a gold net was placed. Greeneryafternoon. ^ Mrs. Charles Bennett and Mrs. Stephen Atwater presided at the tea table.Boris Pasternak was the subject of a talk by Mrs. Myron Soupene. Mrs. Soupene stated that Pasternak was nominated for the Nobel Prize in 1958 for his important achievement both in contemporary poetry and in the field of great Russian epic tradition.The Nobel Prize was rejected but Pasternak had his prize. Although he did not receive the $41,-420 award he has received worldwide recognition for his great contribution to literature, “Dr. Shivago”Boris Pasternak is not a martyr, he likes his way of life and does not care to gild the lily. Although in trouble almost all his working life from escapism, bourgeous tendencies and decandent formalism, so far he remains at peace, protected perhaps by his very fame and (to paraphrase his book) by the “irresistable force of unarmed truth.”The club will meet Jan. 19 at the home of Mrs. E. Samuel Moon, 859 N. Prairie St.Entertain Army Mothers ClubMrs. Blanche Lester, assisted bytwo-tiered cake and punch bowl. The cake was decorated with yellow roses and on top was a pedestal holding a gold doily, with a white satin bow, two wedding bells, and the number “50” in gold. The candles, holders, mints and sugar cubes were decorated by Mrs. George Lincoln. The napkins were decorated with “Nellie and Allen, Jan. 6, 1910-1960” in gold.Presiding at the punch bowlwere Mrs. Ethel Hayes, Nancy (a granddaughter) and Mrs, Victor Schleich. Serving coffee were Mrs. Anna Asquith, a sister, Mrs. Eva Woods and Mrs. Orrin Woods. Karen Lincoln, a granddaughter, assisted at the serving table. Others assisting were Mrs. Wilford Lincoln, Mrs. Orville Lincoln, Mrs. Deen Lincoln, Mrs. George Lincoln, Mrs. Forrest Lincoln and Mrs. Henry Marshall.The many gifts, flowers and cards were taken care of by Deanne Marshall and Wendel Byerly, grandchildren. The tablecloth on the gift table was one used by Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Shinkel, Mrs. Lincoln’s parents, for their wedding supper Jan. 6, 84 years ago.Guests were present from Avon, Galva, Little York, Galesburg, Roseville, Abingdon, Knoxville, Al-tona, Peoria, Stillwell, Wisconsin
