Liberal is second-seeded while McAuley is third ranked.Joplin high will be without the services of center Vince Nord-berg, a 6-7 senior, for tonight’s game at Parkview unless his injured ankle is much improved by game time. “I doubt if Vince will suit out,” Kaminsky said this morning. “If he sees any action at all. it will be only briefly.”Joplin's reserve center, Jim Deckard, a 6-5 senior, will gel the starting call. Deckard, however, suffered a gash over an eye in practice this week and throe stitches were required to close the wound.Landrith, contacted in Kansas City this morning, said his charges played one of their better games against Haskell Thursday night. “We made our share of mistakes, however,” he pointed out.Bruce Hammett, Kenny Bowman and Sam Knight hit long jump shots from outside to riddle Haskell’s zone defense at the outset. The Indians later switched to a pressing man-to-man defense, but the Lions were able to score against it.Hammett fired through 35 points and Bowman added 33 in Joplin’s romp past Haskell. The Lions' high-scoring duo received a big assist from Knight, a 5-10 freshman from found the range Bowman boosted point total to 254 a 23.1 average. Hammett now has 191 points in 10 games—a 19-1 average.McAuley will he bidding for its tenth victory in 14 games against Liberal tonight. The Warriors bowed to Liberal, 62-58, in an early-season Little Eight Conference game.The Warriors reached the tournament semifinals with a 52-42 decision over Jasper in the opening round Wednesday night.
