August Stuever was found in his room early Saturday morning by his daughter, Mrs.Julius Schroeder, 102S Hickory Grove road, v'jtft whom he has been waking his home.At 4-4R o'clock .Mrs. Schroeder heard a xiqIbo in her father's room, ami immediuteJy ran upstairs to investigate the cause* Ifpon opening the door she found him on the floor gasping for nir. Sbe immediately summoned Dr. A. B. Kuhl, who had been treating her father Tor astnma the past few months, Hiiaking that he had been overcome wEtb an attack of the disease,^ 'Sir. Stuever died a few minutes after Dr. Kuhl arrived, and it was nol until after the coroner had arrived that Lbe true cause of his death was {earned. The rootu. be* lag dimly ht Mrs. Schroeder, and Dr. Kuhl had overlooked a piece of fairly heavy store twine lying near her father's hnad. Kfter the coroner's arrival. ’*nd investigation was sturted, dJf light was beginning to better light the room* and i£ was then that a piece of torn twine was found hanging from a clothes hook directly over the spot where the body was found.The fact that Mr. Stuever had at-tempted hanging \\\\§ verified Vhen the two pieces of twme^were compared. The piece found pear his head* and the piece Ueti to the clothes hook corresponded. The twine had evidently not been strong-enough to hold the weight of his body Jong enough to strangle him. but did cut off enougn air supply to weaken him, with death resulting shortly after he had fallen.Mrs.^ Schroeder .stated that be had often mentioned taking his life, and was very despondent over his buffering wnn asthma.The deceased was horn May 29, 1S47 at Oidenherg, Holstein, Germany, and came to the United States, direct to Davenport in jpsi. lie'was preceded in death by his wife 17 years agoSurviving Lire his daughter, Mrs, Julius Schrocder, and a grandson, Alfred Kroeger, both of Davenport. The remains were taken to the llunge mortuary, and weie shipped irom there Saturday afternoon over the C. It. L F. railroad to.lilay-nard, la., where interment wiU take place Monday.IT
