Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ostrum celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Friday, February 22nd, at their home in Durban. A number of old friends and neighbors called dur-ing the afternoon to bring their congratulations on this special day. On account of the recent illness of Mrs. Ostrum, the gathering was a smallone.A beautifully decorated wedding cake centred the table from which a delicious buffet lunch was served by Mesdames V. Ostrum, W. Thompson, E. V. Ostrum and S. Clancy.Many lovely messages of congratulations by card and telegram, and many remembrances came during the day from the visitors and from absent friends and relatives.A feature of the occasion was the presence of Mrs Ostrum’s mother, Mrs. w S. Hislop, now of Benito, whoenjoyed her 93rd birthday on February 17th. Mrs. Viola Darroch, whowas bridesmaid and Mrs. W. Eiffert, of Swan River, who attended the wedding, were also present.Other members of the family present were Mrs. W. S. Thompson. Elva. Mr. and Mrs. E. H, Ostrum, Bows -man, Mr. and Mrs. V. Ostrum and Garth and W. J. Schenko. of Durban. Three grandchildren, Bob Thompson, R.C.A.F., St. Johns, Quebec; Ronald Ostrum, R.C.M.P., Rociccliffe, Ont.. and Miss Betty Ostrum, of Blrtle, Man., were not able to attend.Mr. and Mrs. Ostrum are pioneersof the district, Ray Ostrum having ewme here from Wisconsin, UB.A., in 1900 to join his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Pratt who cam® In 1898, and Annie Hislop fromRichmond Hill, «n mi wWh ^parents and family. They r_ried at the farm home of Mr. *Mrs. W. S. Hislop in Durban district on February 22nd, 1902.They reaided for five years on their homestead in Pretoria district, then moved to Durban where Mr. Ostrum operated planing and grist mills and engaged in building construction for ten years. They then returned to the farm, remaining there until Mr. Os-trum’s serious iilnes of some years ago, made it necessary for them tocome to town again to their presenthome.Mr. Ostrum took the first census and worked on the survey of this district in the early nineteen hundreds. He also carried the mail here by bicycle from Swan River before the town was organized.
