Spiros and Mins Margaret H. Reed, both of this county, werfc united in marriage by the Rev. Daniel B. Sturgis, A minister of the Dunkard denominations. at the home of tlu* bride's parents near Franklin, and t hore stood up with them as bridegroom and bridesmaid, William L. Itausdell, who now lives on South Main street, and Miss Sarah l'etre, now Mrs. James Cox, of Sulphur Springs. The young couple thus happily united immediately wont to work to gain a livelihood for themselves and family, and for forty five years they labored together on their farm a few miles west of Franklin, where were born to them eleven children, three boys and eight girls, all of whom, save (ieorge W., who died when a little more than a year old, are now living. The wives of the two sons and the husbands of the daughters are all living hut one, Mr. Cline, one of the husbands, having died some years ago.Thursday. January 22, 1894, the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Spires, was a bright and beautiful winter day, and one long to bo remembered by each person who constituted a part of the happy throng that met at their home in Franklin to eele I irate that event. Before eight o'clock in the morning the relatives and tin* few invited friends began to arrive, and before noou about tifty people were present. It was the llrst time in twenty years that all the family were together, and as each new arrival came into t he house it was good to behold the joy and .satisfaction beaming in each countenance when greeted by the loved ones who arrived lirst.A little before twelve o'clock Rev. W. P. Hurt called the assembly to order, stating that it was meet and proper on an occasion like it that the Divine blessing should be invoked, and called on Rev. I. B. Sturgis to otfer prayer. After prayer Mr. Hart adand they lived on their farm near Franklin till the fall of 1891, when they moved to Franklin, where they now live. They have been happy and prosperous all their lives, with less to fret and trouble them than usually falls to the lot of ordiuary people, and now in their declining years they are still happy, prosperous ault;i contented.In addition to the father and mother, the children and grandchildren pres ent were John M. Spires and wife, of : Peoria, with their little daughter Bdnn; W. T. Spires, Jr., and wife with their 1 son; O. Spires and his wife, and daughter, Carrie B. Spires; Mrs. Abe Seymour and husband, with theirdaughter, Lillie, and her husband, B.F. Morrow, of Manchester; Mrs. Martha iJ. P.) Story ami three children, 1 Hattie, Charlie uud Curtis; Mrs. Isaiah * Whitlock and husband; Mrs. M. J. 1 CUne, of Danville Kan., with her two ' children, Marvin and Birdie; Mrs.S. A. 1 D. Whitlock and husband; Mrs. J. C. * Smith, of Springfield, with three children, tirucc, Marvin and Boy;Mrs. D. Morrow uml bus- •band, with an infant daughter, * Mrs. C. B. Wood and husband, of Ath- t -eusville. III., with their little daughter; 1 Bertha. There are seven graudchil- 1 dren who were not present. Those wore i all the immediate descendants present, 11 but there were other relatives there, j lt;Rev. I. B. Spires. There were also present Mrs. Thompson Boyer. Dr. and Mrs. F. M. Metcalf, 'Squire J. * M. Coons, ('. S. Hates, a photogropher from Waverly, Rev. W. P.Hart, and the t Cockier man. Later in the day there , * were quite a good many friends who 1 r called to extern! congratulations, while ; * S. W. Nichols, of the Journal, and J.B.
