2,000 at 'Octoberfest'Some 2,000 invited guests are expected in Le Mars March 13 for an open house and German dinner planned by Harker’s Wholesale Meats Inc.Jack Harker said the event is planned as a Harker’s 20th anniversary observance.Invitations have gone out to Harker’s customers in northwest Iowa, south to the Missouri border where guests will come in chartered buses, as far west as Pierre, S.D., north to west central Minnesota and east to Fort Dodge.According to Mr. Harker, Sen. Jack Miller and Gov. Robert Ray have been invited.Guests will arrive throughout the day, starting at 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. There willbe plant tours and meals will be served at noon and the early evening at Koenig National Guard armory.At the armory, Fezz Fritschies Goose Town band of New Ulm, Minn., will provide old time music while a German syle meal is served, Mr. Harker said.“The event will be somewhat along the lines of an Octoberfest,” Mr. Harker said.Guests will include presidents of large companies and marketing vice presidents, as well as government officials.Similar events also are planned at Harker’s facilities March 15 at Marshalltown and March 17 at Davenport, according to Mr. Harker.
