mose specinny nouceame.GERMAN MAMjUKRADK.The gaieties of the week opened on Monday evening last by a delightful German masquerade at the Hoard of Trade hall by the Arion Quartette Club, which numbers among its mombers the very elite of German society here.The hall was most tastefully decorated and draped with German and American national colors. A balcony scene also, in which the Club sang the celebrated frog song. It is hardly possible to describe the many varied and effective muxr/uex, conspicuous, however, were: The Comet (dcr Kmnet), by Mrs. Ensel. who wore a costume of orange colored India silk, combined with white Paris muslin,—brilliant in bands of gold and bullion fringe—corset waist of white satin and gold; over her left shoulder she wore a sweeping tlambeau of spun gold; but brighter than all were the bright eyes that shone through the golden mask.Airs. Gus. Sauer, tis Marie Stuart was magnificent in black velvet, ornamented with gold stars and heavy gold fringe.Miss Ida Haeffner wore a classic Greek costume, as did also Mrs. Fultncr.Miss Hertha Seltzer was beautiful as Queen Elizabeth in a robe of crimson velvet, en train, and skirt of white satin spangled with gold.Miss- Hurt, of the Central school, was completely the representation of Folly. (Pierrette).Miss Emma Seegcr as Snow Flake, and her sister, Miss Tiifie, the Ice Queen.Mr. Eisler attracted much attention from the fair ladies by his representation of the Spanish Prince Alphonso.Mr. Adam Long, a German nobility.An English dandy was conspicuous, and comic characters, some of which were very ludicrous, abounded.
