Veda V. VennebergVeda V. Snyder Venneberg, 85, formerly of Deerfield, died Wednesday at St. Catherine Hospital after a longillness.Born Oct. 19,1898, in Jackson County, she married Karl E. Venneberg Sr., Dec. 27,1917, at the home of her parents in Jackson County. He died in 1962. The couple farmed until the 1920s when she came to Western Kansas to teach school for two years in Stanton County. They then moved to Hays, where she was a longtime employee at a medical practice. She continued her education, receiving her degree in 1938 and in the late 1950s, taught at Codell, Bogue and Utica.Mrs. Venneberg came to this area in 1970 to be near her family. She was a resident of Garden Valley Retirement Village for l‘£ years.She was a member of Hays Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, Rebekah Lodge, Past Teachers organization, Business and Professional Women’s Club and had participated in many area shows for antiques, which she began collecting in the 1920s.Survivors are two sons, Karl E. Venneberg Jr., Kendall, and James E. Venneberg, Chandler, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Mary) Bender, 1009 Lamplighter; two sisters, Clara Mowrer, Lost Springs, and Edith Raney, Johnson; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Carl and Edward Snyder, and a sister, Ellen Saunders, preceded her in death.Memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the United Methodist Church chapel, Hays, the Rev. Mel Short officiating.Her body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for medical research.A memorial has been established in her name with the Polymyositis Research at the K.U. Medical Center, in care of Garden National Bank or Garnand Funeral Home.Garnand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
