county board candidatesTwo UW-0 students are among the Oshkosh candidates for Winnebago County Board. They are Mark J. Block, 462 Scott Hall, and Eric H. Anderson, 747 W. 19th Ave. Both are sophomores.Block, a candidate in district 38, is from Weyauwega. He said that since the 38th district consits of 85 per cent students, a student should represent them. “An effective program could be developed utilizing the resources at UW-0 to further develop the interaction between the city and university/' he said.The resources are students who must have a certain number of hours of practical experience to complete their curriculum, lie said. Block also favors immediate attention to solid waste disposal.Anderson, a candidate in district 42, is from Oshkosh. Anderson said the Whitman Field terminal shouldcounty executive is valuable because Orri King, the current executive, keeps the board informed.All candidates were asked questions of the effectiveness of the county executive, salary for the board, and the size of the board. Some canidates expressed concerns over other issues.District 28: Alberta J. Goff, 1853 Fairview, the incumbent. She said her main goal was to get money from both the county and state to carry out projects of the board. Her experience on the board, she said, gives her the knowledge of where to get this money. Goff is running unopposed.District 29: E.A. Precour, 1532 Kentucky St., is also running unopposed. Precour said, “there should be a complete reorganization of the county board, because now it is very unwieldy.”• i • ■ CV T r T“1 *operations out of committees and put it at the head.” Therefore the committee has more time for matters of importance, he said.District 33: Herbert G. Pitz, 403 Merritt Ave., is now a board member and is running unopposed. Pitz is currently involved with the juvenile detention committee. He said he doesn’t care about the size of the board, but does fear that if the board is reduced there might be “compressed representation.”District 34: James L. Grignon, 326 Saratoga Ave., is the incumbent and lone candidate. Grignon said the problem in reducing the board is to board to the correct size, four members would be to work under, he said,Iwide assessment would not be effective, Fisher said. “One man is not qualified to assess both agricultural and city property. Fisher said his main interests for a board committee is social services. He also wants to see the airport restaurant utilized.District 37: Franklin Utech, 633 W. Irving, is currently on the board and is running unopposed. Utech is chairman of the UW-0 art department. Since there are many students in his district, Utech said he tries to get their opinions. He said the board should as representative as possible no matter what the size is..District 39: Donald Collins, 932 Vine, represents a lot of students in his district. He said, “I an sensitive as possible to their needs. Collins is involved in health projects of the board and wouldand used, Schneider said.Neil Wilson, 1540 Plummer, said he favored a reduction in the size of the board. He said there should also be better juvenile detention quarters.District 44; Wendy Rodman, 606 Mason St., said the county board can be reduced provided we combine the county executive position with more frequent board meetings. Reduction doesn’t wreck representation. Representation is destroyed by the public’s lack of voicing opinions/’ she said.Opposing Rodman is Ralph R. Nielsen, 1617 W. 5th Ave. Neilsen said “The board should definitely be reduced and streamlined.” He also favors equalized assessment.District 45: David C.
