Mr. and Mrs. John H. TwiggMr., Mrs. John Twigg honored with golden anniversary partyCUMBERLAND - Mr. and Mrs. John H. Twigg, Mount Pleasant Road, were honored recently in the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The celebration took place at the Bedford Road Fire Hall.The couple was married Nov. 2, 1939, at the First United Methodist parsonage on Bedford Street. The late Rev. George Bauchman was the officiating clergyman and Mrs. Virginia (Slonaker) Clark and the late Earl Morgan served as the attendants.Mrs. Twigg, the former Norma Susan Heavner, is the daughter of the late George and Bessie Heavner. She was employed by the Allegany County Board of Education for 23 years, retiring as the cafeteria manager at South Penn SchooMr. Twigg is the son of the late Edward and Emma Twigg. He is the retired pro-Erietor of Twigg’s Auto Tune-tp Shop, Cumberland, were he was a self-employed mechanic for 40 years. Twigg, both of Cumberland; Floyd “Butch” Twigg, Cen-treville, Pa.; and Charles E. Twigg, Pinto. They also have 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Marty Martin served as the master of ceremonies and gave the blessing. Music was provided by the King Road Singers.Norman Gillum was in charge of the arrangements. The three-tier anniversary cake, decorated in the traditional gold and white, was baked by Mrs. Eleanor Heavner and served by Mrs. Glen Rice. Corsages were made by Donna Shipley. Mike Huston was photographer and Denny Michaelsvideotaped the affair.The couple received congratulatory messages from President and Mrs. George Bush and Gov. William DonaldSchaeffer.Approximately 200 guests attended from Maryland, WestVirginia and Pennsylvania.
