DROPS49-48 DECISIONTO NEW CHAMPSThe Bethel AMB captured the 1953 Church ©askctbail League championship last night when they edged the First Methodist quintet 49-48 on the YMCA court. The Bethel lads staved off a last minute First Methodist rally to take the '53 crown.The Bethel AME opened the first quarter in fine fashion. They out-scored the First Methodist cagcrs 7-6 to take a one point lead at the end of the first quarter.In the second quarter the First Methodist team caught fire and came roaring back to outscore the Bethel ame 10-13 and take a slim 22-20 lead at half time.Robbie Caldwell, high scoring forward for the Bethel AME, found the range in the third quarter and led his team to a, 39-34 margin over the First Methodist in this quarter. The third period Bethel AMS outburst gave them a 39-30 lead at the end of three quarters.The fourth and final quarter found the First Methodist cagcrs put on another rally and outscore the Bethel AME by a 12-10 margin, but fell two points short of winning the 1853 Church League title)•W 'U n VlArT#1 n
