Meacombs is mayor pro-tem as Middlesex is reorganizedMIDDLESEX — The town of Middlesex has a new mayor pro-tem.The board Monday night appointed Commissioner Harold Meacombs to the post.Meacombs was given the new title minutes after the board accepted the resignation of Commissioner Larry Daniel. Daniel had been serving as the town’s mayor since Mayor Bobby Bis-sette resigned last year.The board also appointed Derek Bissette as the town’s newest commissioner. Bissette fills the vacancy created by Daniel’s resignation.Last July, the board authorized Daniel to act as the town’s mayor even though he was already mayor pro-tem.Bobby Bissette resigned as mayor last June, citing personal reasons.The board has made no moveto fill the mayoral vacancy. On its agenda Monday night, the board had two options listed. One option was to appoint a mayor pro-tem, which it did inMeacombs.The second option was to appoint a new mayor.Daniel’s resignation letter dated Jan. 31 states, “I am resigning from the Middlesex Town Board effective immediately. The reason for this resignation is due to other business obligations and time constraints. Thanks for the opportunity to work with the TownCouncil.”Daniel was appointed to the board in September 2000 to fill the vacancy created after Isaac Lewis resigned and moved out of town.Meacombs was first elected to the board in 1997.Stephanie Creed)
