She was ready to go to Europe when the armistice was signed.Returning to )Arizona she started a craft shop, based on teaching rather than construction.From the first day this project, started with a deficit of ($45, was'ta success.World War II deprived her of supplies, so she closed her shop, stored her tools and many fine pieces of woodwork, and went to Oakland', Calif., where she remained five years and accumulated $13,000 with which to build a home and another shop.When the war ended, she returned to Winslow, bought a lot, planned and built her home and shop.In the shop, she teaches plastics, leather work, wood and metal turning. She makes many articles using sheet metal, wrought iron, woods, both foreign, and na-tive.Most of the furniture in her home was constructed from tailings and trash lumber which she obtains from Northern Arizona lumber companies. Sheet iron, scrap iron, rods, and similar objects are gleaned from the city dump.Miss Shepard creates most of her own designs.
