CARNEGIE LIBRARY DIRECTORS CLOSE THEIR OPTION ON SAKE ATT LOT.Architects Alden Harlow Instructed to Prepare Plans for the Building Immediately.The Board of Directors of the Steubenville Carnegie Library at a meeting held yesterday afternoon decided to purchase the Barratt lot at the corner of Slack and I’ourth streets as a site for the new library building.The lot belongs to the heirs of the late Joseph H. Sarratt It fronts liO feet on Fourth street extends west along Slack street 338 feet and hasfrontage of 138 feet on Fifth street. From almost any point of the lot thera is a magnificent view down the Uhio river to the bend at Mingo. The consideration for the pioperty was not made public by the directors bat it is said to havo been $10,500. Messrs. Alden and Harlow, architects, of Pittsburgh, were also selected as architects for the new library building. They have built the Carnegie library in Scheniey park, four branch libraries in Pittsburg also the Carnegie library buildings at Brad-doek, Erie, Duquease and elsewhere. They were directed to prepare the preliminary plans andsketches for the new building at once. Mr. Harlow attended the meeting of the directors here yesterday and pronounced the Sarratt’ site a moat admirable one for the new building. Indeed hia strong indorsement of the site had much to do with the closing of the option. The directors hope to have the building started by the first of June, and expect to have it under roof before cold weather sets in next fall. It may be constructed of briak, although that question has not been definitely decided.
