Mr S M Melt; kstepped forward and stated the objec t ofthe meeting, and then produced a verylarge family bible. and presented the same in behalf of the Sunday School, making the following remarks“We have come together thi evening tospend asocial hour with each other andfor paying a debt of gratitude we owe you for your energetic and untiring interest, manifested as a leader, in the getting up and carrying through of the annivers try for the benefit of the Asbury Sunday School I have the pleasure of being honored by these, my friends, with the presenting to you of this good book, in behalf of them and myself We know it i* only a small thing in exchangeable value,but we ask you to accept it as an expression of our good will and gratitude to you, and, further, ask vou to consider ita intrinsic value in ’hi-w| aense— that it is the book of book-On ita sacred pages you willfind recorded a code of laws whic h, when obeved, will yield a rich re-♦ Vward,—in short, it is the guiding star to j the Heavenly City, the New Jerusalem,| where we hope to meet each other when done with our earthly homes, and enjoy each others’ society through all eternityIt was indeed a great surprise, for Mr Crosby was mute for some minutes andisilence reigned, after which Mr Crosby made tome vary appropriate remarks, kindly thanked them all, and said they were all welcome.Then began a social hour such as is not often excelled While all were merrv inthe parlor, Mrs C and some friends'pre-pared an oyster supper of which all partook After supper there was a socialconversation on different subjects, and then the parly bade the host and hostess good-night, and all returned to their several homes much pleased with the evening s enjoyment
