Butts quietly observed the sixtieth anniversary oftheir marriage at their home test Sunday/ Feb. 6. Aside from the gathering of the members of their immediate family at the home dub* ing the day, no ado was made over the unusual event that comes to few couples*Mr. and Mrs. Butts were married in Harvard on Feb. 6, 1867, shortly following his return from a service of four years in the 64th Illinois Volunteer infantry in the civil war. They are both natives, of the Har-4 vard community, Mr. Butts' birthplace being in a log cabin just north of the Harvard city limits, where his sister, Mrs. OUver Udell, was the first white child born In Chemung township. Mrs. Butts' birthplace was Bonus Prairie, a few miles west of Harvard in Boone township.Mr. Butts is in his 85th year and Mrs. Butts has passed her 78th year. With the exception of two years passed in Chicago a few years following their marriage, almosttheir entire lifetime has been passed In this city.Another unusual circumstance in connection with the family of Mr. and Mrs. Butts is that their two daughters and two sons were born in Harvard and have always resided here. The daughters are Mrs, Addle Stuart and Mrs. Chas. Temple, the former making her home with her parents. The two sons are Frank and Roy A. Butts.Another not ordinary incident that may be cited in Mr. Butts' life is the fact that he was continuously employed for forty years in the hardware and farm implement business of Marshall Bros., which position he relinquished only a few years ago when members of his family prevailed upon him to retire from active store duties and take life easier,Mr and Mrs. Butts are both enjoying good health. For people of their advanced years they are unusually alert and active They feel that they are fortunate in the fact that a kind providence has kept the family intact and that they are permitted to mingle together dailyJU.
