tfI)1New LibraryBuiltBy Friends - With BooksIThe annual meeting of the Friends of the Scottsdale Library will be held at 8 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the courtroom in the new City Building. (Just west of Town Hall on East Main St.)The Friends group is a nonprofit organization which for the past three years has helped make plans for the building of a new library. It has signed an agreement with the City of Scottsdale whereby land has been dedicated for the library and is now facingthe problem of financing the building.The Friends say that the cost of buildings and equipping a library building of. 10,000 square feet will be around $160,000. A detailed-report on this will highlight next Monday evening’s meeting at the courtroom.The library is asking for book donations — not only hard-backed volumes but for paper-covered pocket books in good condition. Text books, reference books, fiction, Non-fiction — all books are wanted.rSome books will be added to the present stock. Others will be sorted and priced for the sale which will be held Xpril 14-15 at the Valley National Bank.Books may be taken to thepresent library at the Community Center, 315 E. Second St. or phone WH 5-6618 (library) or Mrs. Boettcher, sale chairman, WH 7-1406 after 1 p.m. for pickup.The profit from the sale will be contributed to the library buildingfund. The circulation of books at the present library indicates a growing interest and need of anadequate building. ’Books circulated by the library in January of last year numbered 4,765. January of this year totaled 8,536, almost double.For January alone volunteer workers contributed 943 hours ofworking time. Mrs. John Slocumis head of the institution.- iShelter DetailsWASHINGTON (UPI)-The Defense Department has started distributing the first of a series of pamphlets giving construction details of [family fallout shelters. The booklet, “Family Shelter De- bsigns, describes eight different types of shelters, including material cost estimates from $75 to $650. The handbooks are free at civil defense offices.v
