PepinFuneral Today.Mrs. Hayo HayiThe death of Mrs. Hayo Hayen occurred at herhome in Monti-cello last Friday afternoon following a severe illness of influenza.Mrs. Hayen became ill morethan a month agoand her health was such that she was not able to' attend the funeral of her husband at the church four weeks ago..She was the ^daughter of the*Jate William andTheda (Schoon)Behrends. She wasbom near the town of Spetzerfehn, Ostfriesland, Germany, April 21, 1851, She was baptized in the month of May, 1852, and confirmed at Leerhafe, Germany, 1868. Mrs. Hayen has but one sister living, Mrs. Gebke Schoon, of Wayne township.Mr. and Mrs; Hayen were married August 16, 1875, at Leerhafe, Hanover, Germany. Their marriage was performed in the Lutheran church at that town, by Rev. Gidermann. At the time of his marriage, Mr. Hayen was a farmer and was employed near the town of Munich, Germany. It was during the time that he was working near that town that he met his wife. They landed in the/United States in September, 1875, and for forty years lived on a farm in Wayne township. Thirteen years ago they retired from active farm life and settled in a comfortable home on Brad street. No children were born to this union. Mr. Hayen passed away January 5.Throughout her residence in Wayne township, Mrs. Hayen always took an active part in promoting the work of the Lutheran church of which she was a member. When she and her husband settled in Monti-cello, in 1915, she continued her church work in St. Matthew’s Lutheran church and was an active member of the Ladies’ Aid society. ecu wfeWmg anniversaiy I'August16,1925. The ev6nt was rec* ognized by a dinner given in their honor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Gerdes. A group of twenty-one relatives were present at the dinner and came as a surprise to both Mr. and Mrs, Hayen. Following the dinner, Rev. S. M. Ide, who was at that time pastor of St. Matthew’s church, delivered an address appropriate to the occasion.Funeral services for Mrs. Hayen were held last Monday afternoon at one o’clock at St. Matthew’s Lutheran church. They were in charge of Rev. H. L. Adix, who preached an unlifting sermon and spoke with much feeling concerning the good works of Mrs. Hayen. Her body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in Oakwood cemetery.
