Michael’s High split a pair of basketball games over the weekend, and Santa F« won one.The Horsemen put on a fine showing Friday night, downing the fifth-ranked St. Pius Sar-lans, 95-80, but they ran inlo a tenacious Raton team Saturday night and came out on the short end of an 82-81 double-overtime decision,Santa Fe dropped a heartbreaking, 73-72 overtime game to Los Alamos.Pius had been ranked No. i in the state Class AAA poll earlier this year but two straight losses had dropped the Sarluns to fifth in last week’s listings.The lOth-rated Horsemen got a 2S-point performance from Mike Miera in the win Friday night. Ron Arquero added 20, and David Romero chipped in with 12.For SI. Pius. Mike Kotler and Pat Chiado were tops with 27 and 23 points in that order. Joe Garcia added 11.Saturday night's win was ihe first for Raton in District 2AAA and dropped St. Mike's to 6-2.Jim Dabney’s free throw with one second remaining in overtime dealt Santa Pe its loss. The two teams were lied at Gti-Bii at the end of regulation time, and the Toppers outscored the Demons, 7-fi in the overtime.Santa Fe led going into the final period, (51-54, but the Demons were plagued with another of their cold fourth quarters. They were able to get only five points while the desperate Toppers hit for 12.Bob Ortiz led Santa Fe with 22 points. Kim Hilton paced the tali, top-ranked Toppers with 16.Sanla Fe hosts inter-class rival Grants Friday night thentravels to Las Vegas lo meet Robertson Saturday night.Los Alamos has two road games coming up this weekend. Friday night the Toppers will be at Gallup and Saturday they'll be in Albuquerque to meet the Boys’ Academy.
