theirMemorial to honor fallen heroesBy MARY BETH LEHMANStaff Writermlehman @ fairborndailyherald. comXENIA — It might have happened nearly 100 years ago. but the sacrifice two Xenia Fire Division Pipemen gave when they laid down their lives in the line of duty has not been forgotten.In 1908 the Eavery Grocery Company in Xenia became the scene of a multiple-story warehouse fire that claimed the lives of two firemen.Firefighters Martin Ullery and Joseph Fletcher responded to the scene. Both men had been pipemen, a position similar to that of a volunteer firefighter today, and w hen they w ere fighting the fire, a wall collapsed into an alley, killing Ullery instantly and hitting Fletcher with debris that killed him at the scene.Because Ullery and Fletcher are the only two men to ever die as Xenia Firefighters in the line of duty, Capt.
