L. ol Monessen, the Monessen Public library policy clearly states that the library is not to be used as a study ball. It is a reference and borrowing facility not just for students but for the general public as well.Ihere are no provisions for conferences in the library; prolonged conversations of any kind by anyone are very disturbing and cannot be tolerated. The library staff has bad complaints from adult borrowers that they no longer come to the library after school hours because of the noise. With the recent expansion of the building and consequent wider use, the resulting confusion requires more cooperation from 'all patrons. The librarians regret the need of a police officer to help maintain discipline but greatly appreciate bis assistance so they are free to help with reference questions. The policeman is there to preserve the rights of all the people who want to use the library and the few who cause disturbances must be disciplined.M. A.
