Assigned to the experimental laboratory, he gained early experience with the mercury vapor process for the manufacture of motor on in the days of its development. After serving as a yield clerk, he became foreman of the plants utilizing that process. Subsequently additional plants were placed under his supervision.He became assistant superintendent in 1933, was made refinery- superintendent in January of 1944 and was named manager five years later.Wells was born July 13/1903, and spent his'early years in Bryn Mawr.He attended Haverford School and Phillips Andover Academy. He is a member of American Petroleum Institute and the Chamber of Com-An ardent sportsman. Mr. Granger loved boating, hunting and fishing. He bad maintained a home at White Point, near Northeast, Md„ where he loved to entertain friends,Mr. Granger was an avid reader and newspaper clipper. He kept voluminous scrapbooks of clippings that are said to provide a chronicle of activities in Chester and Delaware County over a 45 year period. Honored by KiwanisOver the years; Mr. Granger had been honored with the Kiwanis Award and merit awards by the American Legion and the business men's association.s •yk’vSfts'f' 'He was organizer of the present Chamber of Commerce, and served as president for ten years. He was active in Chester Rotary Club, which he also served as president for a term. He had been a member of the Chester Club, Spvinghaven Club, Alpha Boat Club, Corinthian Yacht Club, Delaware County Sportsmen’s Association, Rose Tree Hunt Club, the Masonic order and other club and fraternal groups. jBorn in Philadelphia, April 1,1875, son of the late William R. and Emma C. Granger, Mr, Granger attended Belmont Grammar School, Central Manual Training School and the Spring Garden. Institute.His first job in the utility industry was with the Edisop Electric Light Co., in Philadelphia. Later he was a meter man with the 'Bov; el ton Electric Co. in 1897, he became superintendent of the Wissahiekon Electric Co., a posit Ion-he held until coming to Chester in 1904 to be general manager of the old Beacon Light Co.He was active in organizing the Pennsylvania Electric Association, and served as its 3d president.
