Mrs. Edna Wesson, and Mrs. Lillian Gray.The story of Mr. Pfost's life read* like a western story, his career having been involved with colorful frontier days. He was a cattleman for many years, having been superintendent of Rose dale ranc h for the Kern County Land Company for a long periodEven the date of his birth is interesting. July 4. 1865. In 1878 he drove a team over the plains, and settled in Oregon, going later to Nebraska. In 1 887 he was chosen by the governor as a supervisor to form Sioux county, Nebraska. Later he became sheriff of that county, serving in that capacity for three terms.He built and operated the first hotel in Harrison, county seat of Sioux county, and was an organiser of the Hank of Harrison. He aided in building the courthouse there and was active in all civic affairs. In 1893 he moved to South Dakota where he lived six years.It wan in 1899 that he moved to Bakersfield, where the family bus made a definite place for itself in tin* social, cultural and industrial life of the community.
