Downing at their home. Although plans were considerably curtailed because the doctor is bedlfast (following the auto accident in October) a number of relatives and friends were in during the day, including three who were at the wedding 50 years ago: Mrs. Orsina Swift King, of Bloomfield); Mrs. W. A. Shelton, of Unionville, Mo., and Sherman Downing, of Drakesville. Many telegrams, letters, flowers and remembrances came from old friends from far and wide.Other out of tow guests were: their son, Dr. Wendell and family, of Le Mars;, la.; daughter, Inez and family, of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Downing, of Troy1, la.; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Galpin, Mr. and Mrs. Ova Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Meyers, of Bloomfield and Walter Kutch, of Ottumwa, all nieces and nephews fo the doctor; W. A. Shelton and Miss Margaret, of Unionville, M'o., and Don M/cKay, of Rock Island, 111.; Mrs. Lena Voss and Miss Louise, of Shenandoah, la.William L. Downing and Martha Coons were married at noon December 27, 1887, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Coons, north of West Grove in Davis county. The officiating minister was Rev. E. M. Smith, pastor of ' the Christian church in Unionville, Mo., where Dr. Downing was in his second year of practice of medicine.In April 1890 the Downings moved to Moulton, building their home on the hill at the north end of Main street.The Downings are numbered among the community’s most honored residents. Friends and business associates of this fine couple join with the Tribune in extending hearty congratulations.
