He has been In on a number of star hunts [during the five years he has been scouring the skies with liis telescope.lie had a part in the discovery ofone other comet and several stars. However, he was not the first to gettrace of them, simply adding to the confirmation lt;f these other discoveries.He is a self-taught astronomer, but the scientific department of Harvard t'niversitv has recognized his skill. The institution gave him his telescope.Peltier built the observatory in an open tleld on lus father’s farm, members of his family helping him to erect it li is a small frame building Stopped by a revolving sheet-iron dome.Pour years ago. he started searching for a new heavenly body. It was a week after he sighted what is now known as Peltier’s Comet that the scientists at Harvard and Yerkes observatories got track of te body.The Peltier comet is little more than a shadow in the sky. It is so far from the earth that no computation of thedistance can he made.
