Fort Hill s class of 1945holds 66th get-togetherFOR THF. Cl IMHFRIAND TIMRS-NEWSCUMBERLAND — The Fort Hill High School class of 1945 celebrated its 66th reunion with a luncheon at the Cumberland Country Club. There were 45 guests in attendance, including 26 classmates, 10 honorary members and nine guests.Naomi Thrasher Smith served as the greeter andEresented name tags to mem-ers and guests. Fallowing a social hour, Fred “Skip” Squires led the flag salute and gave the invocation, including a prayer for the armed forces.After lunch, champagne was served and a memorial toast was given by Don Heller for deceased classmates.Class President Dari “Ace” Jewell also gave a toast to the classmates and made a few remarks.Brookley, Danny Chase, Henrietta Chase, Ted Durbin, Wm. “Bud” Giles, Doris Goldsborough, Don Heller, Dari “Ace” Jewell, Ray Lapp, Alma Lewis, James Lippold, George Malsberry, Carroll Mattingly, Richard McCoy, James McKay, Norma Nicholson, Doris Niland, Julia Omdorff, Shinley Shaffer, Ann Shore, Naomi Smith, Fred “Skip” Squires, Ruth Twigg, Shirley Wigfield and DennisWilson.Honorary members in attendance were spouses who were presented honorary certificates of membership in 2010 for faithfully participating in numerous reunions during the past 65 years. They were Mona Giles, Mary Lou Heller, Colleen Lapp, Peggy Lippold, Joyce Malsberry, Carleton Shore, Dottie Squires, Rita Wilson and Martha Lee Zolner.Classmates attending were Frank Niland had previous-orary certificate of membership by Jewell. The certificate was signed by Victor D. Heisey, who was principal of Fort Hill in 1945.Guests attending were Tommy and Kitty Dunn, Louise McCoy, Virgil Twigg, Barbara and George Tichnell, daughter and son-in-law of Doris Goldsborough, Annette Wilson, daughter of Rita and Dennis Wilson, and Cheryl and Gary Sherman, daughter and son-in-law of Alma Lewis.Group pictures were taken by Barbara Tichnell, Annette Wilson and Cheryl and Gary Sherman.An 85th birthday reunion is planned for next year.Reunion committee • members were Fred “Skip” Squires, Shirley Shaffer, Naomi Smith, Norma Nicholson, William “Bud” Giles, Doris Goldsborough and Dari “Ace” Jewell.
