In the summer of 1872 Seven members under the leadership ofRev. Singleton, organized the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Fletchers Bottom’s; eight miles south of the city. The Rev. Singleton postered this congregation for three years and six months.In 1S76 the church was moved to Eleventh St. and the railroad in a small frame building and Rev. Baxter was called to the pastorate. I He labored only one year and resigned. However, under his leadership, j the co*gre',nt.?o*' grew to 90 memoers. jIn 1878 Rev. David Slaughter accepted the pastorate for two years; he lead and the church prospered. The membership was 150. j The three years that Rev. Harvey Bloodworth led the memfcer-| ship grow to 250. After he resigned the Rev. Tom Huffman then ac-i cepteu the ’eadership and stayed with the church for two years. Under i his leadership more than 100 wore added to the church, i Rev. James Morton succeeded him, when he resigned for the! purpose of organizing an other church. , .| Rev. B. F. Farrel of Gallatin, Tenn, was called in 1890 and he con-• tinued his wor.c lor 37 years. Under his leadership the congregation Increased to 500.In 1907 we again are forced to look for another ghephard pastor* i ing the Moauinonti'l Church :n Chattanooga, Tenn., we find the Rev. i O. W. Ward who agrees to come to us. In May 1907 we find him plan-! ning his work. Under his leadership the present edifice was erected at12tli and Favettc Sts. It was under his leadership the congregation increased from 500 to 1150. The church furnished and the first PipeOrgan installed. ♦ • * *In November, 1921 we are looking for a leader and we fin'* in Witcliita, Kan., the Rev. S. B. Butler and we ask him to come over and help us M- Inhered with us. for nine years and four months. .Our Ucavemy Father ca.ied him to hi3 great reward.* April 1st. 1930 we are again without leadership. Numbering about 750 members, our hearts grieved; we find ourselves praying for guidance. While we are praying we are directed to look over in Homestead, Pa., and there wo find one Rev. Marshall A. Talley, pastoring Clark Memorial Church. After our urgent request he is directed to come and lead us. In the one year that Rev. Talley has been with us, he has added to the chuicli 211 members, raised more than $900,00, installed a new $6roj.OU Pipe Organ, Organized the Junior Church, installed young People’s dry.
