WHITELAW(By The Gazette’s Correspondent)Whitelaw, Dec. 20:— The community was shocked to learn of the death of Luctus Halen Yates,a highly respected resident of the Peace River country for a numberof years, on December 15th, following a short illness.Mr. Yates was born September24th, 1864, at Batavia, 111. Somethirty years ago he came to Canada and homesteaded. Severalyears ago he married Mrs. Lucy Chevoweth and resided on herfarm in the Lothrop district until the time of his death. Left tomourn his loss are his widow, six children, Dora, Skipworth; Margaret, Spokane, Wash; William, Whitelaw; Ediih, Regina; Archie, Goldfields; Adelaide, Bigger, Sask. also eighteen grandchildren. The funeral service was held at hishome. Pallbearers wereG. Bright, F. Knowlton, 0. Erickson, H P. Hansen, T. Whvave-guard and W. E. Black.Interment took place in theWhitelaw cemetery.Bob Spiller left Saturday morning to spend Christmas at hishome in Unity, Sask. D. A. Johnson also left Saturday, for Calgary.Miss Mary Kramer, of Edmonton, is home for the holidays.The next picture show will beSaturday, December 31, when Mr. Boyd will put on another one cent show.The ice was in good conditionr«*
