CSC Students Aid Children HospitalAided by the cooperation of local businesses, 40 members of the staff of California State College’s radio station, WVCS-FM, recently braved the biting cold wave to collect nearly 1900 for Children's Hospital In Pittsburgh.The student-run station spent two days and nights broadcasting from the display window of California’s G,C. Murphy Co., while, outside on the icy streets, various campus sororities and fraternities, assisted by fellow staff members and a Jovial Santa Claus (Dave Shedtoek), sang carols and offered Yulellde greetings to shivering shoppers. Inside, the station interviewed local residents, allowing them to send holiday wishes over the air.The event was coordinated by TomAustin, Dennis Galloway, station manager, and faculty advisor Dr. Richard May. California merchants donated cash, discounts on food and gifts, free cinema passes, baked goods and hot coffee to the cause.The money collected will go to KDKA radio which will, in turn, send the donations to Children’s Hospital In the name of WVCS.Student coordinator, Austin, was happy with he community’s response to the plea: This is the first time we’ve done this, and It’s been so successful that I'd like to make it an annual affair. I’d like to come back to California 25 years from now and see WVCS still collecting money for these kids.’’
