Waltz and Eva C. Waltz accepted each other “for better or worse, in Lafayette township, this county, the ceremony being performed by Rev. N. L. Lewis, a prom.nent minister of that time, but long since departed. The bride with her parents had come* from Allegheny county (now Garrett), Md., Several years before and settled in Lafayette, while John, a resident of the same county in Maryland, followed in 1859. And notwithstanding that Mr. and Mrs. Waltz are cousins and bore the same surname before the.r marriage, they never met until the former’s arrival in Lafayette, says Mr. Waltz.Soon after the outbreak of theWar of the Sections, Mr. Waltz enlisted in the army, the 42d O. V. I.(Oartield’s regiment) serving forMr. Waltz was born June 18, 183a, and Mrt. Waltz was born Dec. 26,1832, their ages being respectively 86 and 89 years. While the burden ofMR. AND MRS. JOHN WALTZonlike to keep tab on the great and many things that will happen between now and 2922. I remember when there was only one short strip of railroad in the country, and that was in Maryland, said Mr. Waltz, “and now there is scarcely a hamlei anywhere that cannot be reached by the ‘iron horse and rail.’ ”Mr. and Mrs. Waltz were blessed by five children, only one of whom is living—Mrs. Kittie May Blanot of Medina.Upon the 50th anniversary of their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Waltz celebrated the event with a dinner, at which upward of a hundred friends and relatives were present. A like celebration was enjoyed also upon the 60th ann.versary. This year is to be no exception, although the festivities will not take place untilJan. 3, 1923, and will be held at the Odd Fellows hall. Members of the Women’s Relief Corps and the G. A.I R. w'll assist in making this unusual occasion the brightest, if possible, ot all the 61 anniversaries that have preceded it.The Sentinel extends its heartiestgood health, particularly the latter,who says he would like to live for a three years and participating in many i thousand years. Asked why, he re-important engagements with which that famous regiment is credited. Re-vears has rested rather heavily ----Mrs. Waltz of late, both she and her congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Johndevoted companion enjoy reasonably Waltz, and hopes that they may bespared for many more happy anniversaries of the r wedding day, even if the venerable groom shall not be the best permitted to linger until 2922, as heplied: “Because this isplace I have ever been, and I wouldso youthfully yearns.
