James A.Bayard, daughter-in-law of the late Secretary of State, Hon. Thomas F. Bayard, of President Cleveland's Cabinet, entertainedat a tea this afternoon, presenting her daughter. Miss Anne Frances Bayard, to | Washington society, Mrs. Bayard was assisted by Mrs. E. C. I?rooks and Mr. D. P. McCartney and Miss Margaret Cranston : Brooks, the Misses Cassin, Miss Depew. Miss Eleanor Paul, the Misses Abbott and Miss Louise White. Mrs. Bayard wore a gown of nlle green silk and point lace In a modified empire style. Miss Bayard's gown j was of white lace over chiffon and white messaline and she carried an armful of American Beauty roses. Mrs. Bayard en-j tertalned her receiving party at dinner after a tea, when a few men were guests. Mrs. James Ilsrriman gave a small tea jj this afternoon in honor of Miss May Rob- j son, who is starring in “The Rejuvenation of Aunt Mary.” jInvitations have been Issued by Mr. and Mrs. George II. Howard for the wedding : breakfast of their daughter, Mary Clare, and j Mr. Louis Warrington Cottruan. son of Mr. i and Mrs. J. Hough Cottman, of Baltimore. ; at 12.30 January 8.
