; YOUNG WRITERS—Santa Don’t Smoke That Pipe,” was the title of the essay contest for third grade students sponsored by theAmerican Lung Association of Illinois. Teachers taught a lessonabout the hazards of smoking and second-hand smoke, and thenthe children wrote an essay telling Santa why they wanted him to quit smoking his pipe. The top three essays from each class were selected for regional competition. The six top essays from CMGS were: Randi Basham, Dustin Rogers, Randy Winters, Aria Capel, Ashton Martin and Erin Williams. Not present: Randy Winters, (photo furnished)CMGS Attendance Awards presentedWinners of the AttendanceAward at CMGS for the month of November were Mrs. Vicki Dillard’s third grade class and Mr. James Bynum’s sixth grade class, both with attendance percentages of 99 percent for the month. Both classes received an award certificate. In addition, students in the class at each grade level withthe highest attendance received McDonald’s certificates for free cheeseburgers. Winners for November were: Early Childhood: Mrs. Deuel; Morning Kindergarten: Mrs. Humphries; IB: Mrs.Williams; 2A: Mrs. Puckett; 3A: Mrs. Dillard; 4A: Mr. Parks; 5B: Mr. Grace; 6A: Mr. Bynum; 7A: Mr. Fodor and 8B: Mr. Chambers.
