Mayers couple observe 50th dateMr. and Mrs. James E. Mayers of DuBois, Clearfield County, have observed their 50th wedding anniversary.Mr. Mayers and the former Helen Zedlar were married Nov. 26,1953, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. Portage, by the Rev. John Miller.Mr. Mayers was born in 1931 in Portage, son of the late J.R. “Dutch” and Kathryn Mayers.Mrs. Mayers was born in Johnstown, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Zedlar.Mr. Mayers was employed by Dutch’s Men’s Shop in Portage and Westmont Shopping Center and Ward Trucking Corp., Altoona.He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict.He also attended St. Francis University, Loretto.He is a member of DuBois American Legion and DuBois RotaryClub.s^ffigST*- ♦ . ?. ~'LMrs. Mayers was employed by Lee Hospital in the operating room for six years. She retired in 1993 after 16 years’ service from DuBois Regional Medical Center.She is employed by DuBois Area School District. ,/*■'v lt;Mr. and Mrs. MayersShe is a board member of Salvation Army and a volunteer at the food pantry and Free Medical Clinic in DuBois.They are the parents of five children: Kim Ferraccio of Vander-grift, Westmoreland County; Jim Mayers of DuBois; Mark Mayers of Portland, Ore.; Nikki Mayers of Washington, D.C.; and Michael Mayers of Rockton, Clearfield County.There are six grandchildren.
