The weather In Des Moines was the most intense December cold here in eightyears and within 6 degrees of the coldest December weather in history of the weather bureau.The official readings, the weather bureau said, were from 5 to 10 degrees higher than the open country temperatures and the mercury probably dropped as low as 30 below in parts of north central Iowa.
