INTERESTING ITEMS* _About the First Settlement of Shelby ville and Shelby County.Shelby countv was organized in 1821.The first town platted in the county was Mari hi, which was laid out In 1820The first settler in what is now Shelby county was James Wilson, father of Isaac II. Wilson, now livingin this place. Mr: James Wilson erected the first hou-e in the county, on Blue River. in J819.The site of this .citv was selected for the county seat July 5.h, 1822, the ground comprising, originaiiy, seventy acres, being donated by Major John llendricks, John Walker and James Davidson.The first celebration of Independ encc Day, in the county, was July-1th, 1822.
