LYON COUNTY■Michael Haag* Celebrates His 86th AnniversarySjwdal to ThiOlpe, Dee. 10—Sunday, December 8, marked the 88th birthday anniversary of Michael Haag, sr. of Olpe. A dinner was held to his honor at the home Sunday, when his sons and daughters arrived. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Jake E. Haag, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Haag, jr„ Mr. and Mrs. John Haag, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Haag, Mrs. Anna Haag, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Sterbens, Mr. and Mrs. John Waechter, Mrs. Katherine Miller. Those unable to attend were a son S. J, Haag, who is in the navy, and two daughters, Mrs, A. J. Sahr.-degg, Eureka, and Mrs. Herman Sehadegg, . Sterling, Coin. Many friends called during the day,Mr. Haag came to America from Luxembourg at the age of 18, and came directly to Atchison, Kans. He was married to Ida Weinman of Atchison in 1881. Fifty years ago next spring, in 1891, he came to Lyon county and settled on a farm two and one half miles east of Olpe. As a farmer he' was successful and acquired and improved several fine farms.Iar 1912 he retired from active farming, and • leasing his farms to.his' sons, he purchased a home in Olpe at which place he still lives. His wife died to 1920, and since 1922 his son John and family have occupied the home with him. Michael Haag, sr., has 131 .living descendants. There were 12 children, 10 of which are now living. And 85 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. One son S. J. Haag, has been in the U. S. Navy since 1928 and now is stationed with his wife and daughter at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu.Approximately 65 per cent of these descendant* live in Lyon county.
