I_ Varna Man Dies.(By Mrs. M. E. Smith.) Andrew Carson Rose was bom April 17th, 1837, in New York City, lie came here when a boy and worked on a farm until he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Re-beeea Malone, July 4, 1870. They moved to Varna in 1871. He hasbeen in poor health for some time and has had many serious illnesses and recovered but this time when pneumonia set in he was too weak to overcome the disease and died at his home in Varna Wednesday eveningat 9.20.He was an old soldier and served his country faithfully until honorably discharged. He enrolled to serve his country onJan. 1, 186.1, in Company H. Tenth Regt. Ills. Inft. He wasthrough the war and dischargedSept. 10, 1865, at David's Island, New York, by reason of asurgeon’s certificate of disability.The funeral was held Friday at 2 p. m. at the M. E. church, Rev. Smith of the Christian church of Washburn officiating. The songs were selected by Mrs.| Rose as his favorites and sumg by Mrs. L. W. Broaddus, Mrs.: Park, Mrs. Doffgren, wife of ; Rev. Doffgren of the Swedish church, and Rev. Evans, the reg-: ular minister at Varna, who also assisted Rev. Smith. TheI floral emblems were beautiful, from his loved onesi and his ; friends. Old Glory,4 for which I he fought and received his wounds, was draped over his casket. His soldier comrades were his nail bearers, viz: Jos.Maleham, John Roberts, John A. Johnson, Robert Ilaugens ofVarna and F. F. Thierry and George Griffin of Wenmia, who j braved the elements, for it was I a bad day and honored an oldcomrade by their presence. Allhonor to them. The minister gavea fine discourse on Job of Biblefame and spared none.He was laid to rest in the My. ers cemetery northwest of Varna. He had no near rrelatives in the west, his people all living in New York. Those present from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Malone, Met amor a; Mr.and Mrs. Wilbur Foster, Deer C reek; Mr®. L. F. Mooberry and twa*yotunjg men from Laoon.•Mrs. Rose was so ill thatshe was unable to go to the church. His wife is left to mourn his loss. He was a landmark, being identified with Varna since it was founded, and raised the choicest of fruits and berries until his health failed and he became a semi-invalid Now he As gone to his rest.
