E. minister and former secretary and treasurer of Wllb enforce University, died at his home 528 E. Market St., Sunday morningfollowing an extended illness from a complication, of diseases.Rev. Maxwell - was the son of Campbell and Henrietta- 'Maxwell and was horn in Fayette County September 30; 1840. He was educated in the Jamestown and Xenia'j public schools. He entered the j ministry in ISO'S ' and- beginning in 1 1897 served various charges in | Ohio, retiring from active ministry eleven years ago. . He was a member of the Ohio A. M. E. ( Church Conference and had served jas -treasurer of the conference fif- j teen years, retiring from that of--fice two years ago., jIn 1888 Rev. Maxwell was ap-! pointed secretary of Wilberforce j University and served until 18971 when he retired from tbat position j hut was .immediately appointed j treasure^ of the university and served until 1915. He had been a trustee of Wilberforce since 1883 and was still serving on the trustee board at the time of his death.Rev. Maxwell was active in civic affairs and was a member of the Xenia city council from 1879 until 18S3 during which time* he was Chairman of the committee on public buildings. He was a member of St. John’s A. - M. E. Church.Surviving are twio sons. Rev. Howard Maxrwell, Woodland Park, Mich,, and Prof Joshua E. Maxwell, teacher in the Baltimore, Md. schools; a daughter. Miss India Maxwell, teacher in the East St. Louis, schools; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and two brothers, Rev. George Maxwell and C. F. Maxwell, Xenia. His wife, Mrs. Evie Maxwell, died July S, 1918.Funeral services will he conducted at -St. John's A. M. E. Church Wednesday aftejnoon at 2 o’clock and bujial will* be made In Massie’s Creek Cemetery, near Ce-darville.
