FINDING WORK FOR NEGROES IN NORTHi --1 NEW YO£K. Dec. 8.—A report on j t welfare work among the negro popula-j tion of twenty cities In the United ' States made public here to-day by the national league on urban conditions i among negroes, showed that many Jnew lines of employment liad been : opened to men and women of that race.The largest undertaking.. was the placing of about 700 men and women in the Connecticut tobacco fields. Work was. found for a score of others in semi-Bkilled labor in a steam pump / plant in Massachusetts, and more than 450 students in negro; colleges and in* dustrial and agricultural schools in the southwest provided with- employment as harvest hands during the-summer to obtain money for their education. :The report states that the league organized new branches in Detroit, In- i dlanapoUs, Pittsburgh, HuntsVille, AIa.r I and Memphis, Tenn. In the coming 1 j year the league plans to study increased migration of negroes from the south ■ and to furnish the states in which they settle suggestions for their : career.
