The contest was unique in two particulars. It was the first time in Maroon-Hoosier football history that the Cream and Crimson succeeded in scoring, and it was the hardest-fought game that the two elevens ever played. Indiana's showing was remarkable. Outweighed twenty pounds to the man, and laboring under the disadvantage of far less football experience, Choach Sheldon's disciples not only held their opponents down to a very small score, but actually outplayed them in the first half. The Varsity men played with a desperateness that never characterized their work before. During the last few minutes of play in the second half, the Midway warriors were held by Indiana on her own two yard line until time was called with the ball in the possession of the Varsity.. A Chicago paper had this to say of our team: “Indiana’s eleven, thanks to L few the capable work of Jimmy Sheldon, was act the most formidable aggregation that evi ever went to Marshall field from Bloom-'^tha't *ngton- Hoosiers put up an excel-U not lent defense and a well-trained offensive ■ stu- ' Play- Every man showed fighting qualities and displayed remarkable determination.” as a result of which Indiana stock against Purdue took a wonderful rise.On the next Saturday, Washington University of St Louis was soundly trounced 39 to 0. Had it not been for the fact that many substitutes were used throughout the contest, a score twice the size actually made, would have been rolled up against the Missouri men. - As soon as it was seen that the Cream and Crimson warriors were certain of a vie-a * •toiy, the best men on the team were taken out As the players were removed p. m, (Continued on ptge three.)ailed sense : her y bea. m.a. tv.*lt;# *p. m,
