Tribune Friday, Dec, 7« 1984We Care telethon set for weekendKokomo’s annual We Care telethon starts at 8 tonight and concludes Sunday evening.The WWKI television production to be simulcast on WWKI ra-dio is In its lUh year of providing Christmas cheer, help, and assistance to the needy.Besides funds raised through theauction, funds for We Care areraised through volunteer collections, donations by firms, and contributions by area and community residents,We do not set goals, we just hope to better the previous year, and It appears the need is greater this year than in the past” said Dick Bronson, who has helped to guide the community effort.We raised il2fi,0flfl last year,and filled about 25 truckloads of food and material goods — and even more may be needed this Christinas. The money goes to the Salvation Army, Kokomo Rescue Mission and the Goodfellows, while goods and other items are given to the Salvation Army and■'nun‘‘Although the challenge is great, I'm excited and optimistic about this year’s efiort,” Bronson added. We have some outstanding Items to auction including diamond rings, Cabbage Patch Dolls, afghans and quilts, and we need more Items. It takes 1,600 items for our telethon auction which lasts until 5 p.m. Sunday and we need good quality Items.”Others staffing the telecast with Bronson will Include Charlie Cropper, Mike Christopher, Bob Martin, Bill Ice, Clele Helton, Dan Stamm, Tony Morris and Don Ro-gan.The telecast will he on Telecable Channel 7 and the telecast will run until 5 p.m. Sunday.Our last hour we dedicate to the children who have collectedmoney. We give them doughnuts and hot chocolate and talk to them on radio,” said Bronson.Rick Hamilton, manager of Telecable, said his organization donates the time and the channel as a community service.Last year, donors lined up for the We Care effort ■’_(Tribune file photo)
