NEWPORTBEGINS CLE 1Closing of Disreputable Places in Campbell County Begun by Sheriff—River Camps To Be Padlocked.“Home brew joints and other places of disreputable character in Campbell County must go.”That was the order issued yesterday by Sheriff Tieman of Campbell County when he prepared to act upon numerous complaints concerning: fishing: camps and other places where law violations are said to flourish in Newport. The order was said to have been a result of the recent brawl at a fishing camp on the Ohio River* said to be owned by John (“Boots”) Taul-bee, which resulted in the fatal shooting of William Gillespie of 1615 Main street, Cincinnati. The slayer, Ferd Moeller, afterward surrendered to the police and said that he killed Gillespie in self-defens£.One of the first acts of Sheriff Tie-man’s deputies in carrying out the new order was to visit the scene of the killing, about one-half mile east of Melbourne. The place was closed and apparently deserted, but to make sure that it did not begin operation again, the deputies padlocked it.Sheriff Tieman said last night that numerous complaints, most of them anonymous, have been received by him, charging that “home brew” was being sold and “all-night parties” staged at various fishing camps along the Ohio and Licking Rivers. He declared that all of these places would be investigated and padlocked if the complaints were found to be justified.
