It was the 71st anniversary of his birth. His charming companion had notified a number of his friends of the fact, and when the captian enterredhis dwelling he found his spaciousrooms full of ladies and gentlemen all pressing around him to grasp his hand and extend warm congratulations. hater, delicate refreshments were served and after a pleasant season of social enjoyment “good night-s” were said, the guests wishing their host and hostess many lmppy returns of the event which brought them together. Captain Smiley, though a veteran of two wars, is yet hale and hearty and enjoys life like a boy.
