iUCSUIN DAILY CiTIZPrep cage previewCDO’s coach optimisticdespite rebuilding yearBy BOB KEMPCitizen Sports writerThis Is another in a series on Tucson-area high school basketball prospects. When a coach loses his top eight players from a team ' that was the No. 2 team in the state, you don’t expect him to be optimistic. The exception is Canyon del Oro coach John Tissaw. We're extremely young and inexperienced, but if we reach our potential, we’ll definitely be contenders,” said Tissaw.Tissaw is replacing five players who were starters for two or more years, including Brian Jung, a high school All-American last year now at the University of Arizona. The key to this year’s team is another Jung, Mark, a 6-foot-11 sophomore who saw some playing time last year.Jung scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds Tuesday night in the Dorados' 87-63 loss to Coolidge, but was injured early in the second quarter. The Dorados weren't in the game after his departure.“We have some people who have played varsity before, but none of them have ever started before Tuesday night,” Tissaw pointed out.Other starters are seniors Randy Eckel (5-10) and Kirk Swenson. (6-5), along with juniors Kyle Doda (6-4) and Jeff Fisher (6-0). Eckel played some last year while Swenson is a tranfer from Oregon. Fisher and Doda were members of last year’s junior varsity team that posted a 13-5 record.Tissaw plans to use manyplayers throughout the entire season.
