Dyer makes boots and shoes for the local populace. And P. M. Pharr, who can be reached day or night, is alocal pharmacist.The mails leave Sherman daily and arrive at Pilot Point at 2 p.m., leaving for Denton at 2:30. Mail arrives weekly from McKinney on Mondays at 2 p.m. and Gainesville on Wednesdays at9 a. m.The Masonic Lodge meets Saturday nights on or before the full moon of each month, and IOOF Lodge No. 103 meets on Saturday night of each week.Little Jim Holt, who was accidentally shot the week before, is recovering nicely. Dr. Chandler has recovered from his illness, and J. J. Boatman is up again after an illness. Major Walcott also is recovering from an accident; he nearly cut off his foot with the sickle of a mower. And Prof. Beauchamp of Denton has just been elected superintendent of a 10-month session of the local seminary.Those were just a few of the items that appeared Sept. 7, 1878, in the second issue ofThe Pilot Point Post, the community's newest weekly newspaper that had made its appearance a week earlier.Today, The Post-Signal.a direct descendent of The Post, is celebrating its 100th anniversary as a continuous publication. This week’s issue—published 100 years to the exact date after the first Post appeared—will be the 5,201st published since 1878.The Post was founded by J. T. Jones and D. J. Mof-fit, both transplants to Pilot Point from other parts of the country. Jones was from Florida, while Moffitt hailed from Illinois.Jones and Moffitt were partners until February, 1888.
