Canadian Mail.fPer Htuamur iBbol.]Ottawa, Aug. 10.—Betwoon 10 and11 o'clock last night an armed party of roughs attacked tho Gipsy camp at Mechanicsvillo, and dispersed the oc-cupauts, injuring some of them more or less severely. According to the account of tho gipsies, a little after .ton o’clock a man came to tho camp and called out one of tho tenants by name. No sooner had ho presented himself outside his tent than ho was struck in tho face and knocked down. Then commenced an indiscriminate attack on tho whole camp, which in a few minutes was mado a complete wreck. The furniture was destroyed, and all tho damage done that was possible. One of tho gipsies who had for throe months previous been in Montreal General Hospital under treatment for a broken leg had the same limb broken onco more; and it is believed that a child was so severely injured that its life is despaired of. The attacking party used revolverswere six men with their wives and children, offered no resistance whatever. The women wore also roughly treated, and some of them hurt in the scuffle. Tho attacking party was composed of raftmon, and were led on by tho foreman.Two rilled field guns will be sentimmediately to Winnipeg over the Dawson route, with their necessary carriages and stores. They are intended for frontier service, in tho event of disturbances arising withinour border, should United States Indians bo driven across tho frontier byAmerican troops.
