Sixty Happy Years.[Elgin Dally Courier. Saturday August 2-2.1To-day Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Church, who are among Elgin's oldest and most respected citizens, celebrated the sixtieth annivesary of their marriage. The golden wedding is an unusual event, but this, the colobration of threo score years of married life is indeed a rare occurrence.Mr. aud Mrs. Church this afternoon held a reception at their home, No 37 Chapel street, the hours for receiving being from 3 to ti o’clock. Exercises appropriate to the occasion were upon the progarmme and refreshments were served. The matter was in charge of Mrs. Emerson of Kockford and Mrs. E. A. Barclay of this city.Caleb C. Church was born Januajy 16th, 1807, in Vernon, Oneida county, New York, his ancestors being early colonists, who were prominent patiiots before and during the revolution.Ilia grandfather of the same name, lived near Hartford, Connecticut and is said to have owned the farm on which stood the famous Charter oak. It was his maternal grandfather. Colonel Wadsworth, who seized the charter and hid it in the oak.His oldest brother, Hiram, the lather of Alfred and Sam Church, came west and located at St. Louis. In 1835 he made a trip to Chicago on horseback, crossing Fox river at Aurora. Ho was so impressed with this region that he afterwards made his home there. Caleb Church followed his brother to Illinois in 1854, for two years engaging in the lumber business in Chicago, but the cholera interfered, with this and he removed to ltockton, Winnebago county, living there eleven years, part of the time on a farm, and, during the war, serving as deputy revenue collector. In 1806 be removed to Elgin to engage in the Illinois condensing factory, then being started.August 24, 1831, he married Clara Beulah, daughetr of Dr. Ariel Norton of Fernon. New York. She was born April 18, 1812. Her family removed to Winnebago county and a sister became the wife of Hon. Wail Talcott.During these years Mr. and Mrs. Church have prospered and enjoyed a very happy life. Marriage to thorn ha» been no failure. Comfortably blessed with the world’s goods and many friends they cuu begin their latter honeymot n with the ussurance that their lust years will be peuceful and pleasant. They are yet «juite strong physically as well us menially aud all hope they may celebrate another anniversary ten years hence.
