Evangelical Church of Westwood Dedicates New Basement RoomsNEW GRACE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN WESTWOOD.The Grace Lutheran Church, which will dedicate Its newly completed basement church, corner Boudlnot and Verdin avenues, Westwood, Sunday, August 26, was founded by the Kevs. F. Kroencke, Norwood, and Theo. Moellering, of Trinity Church on Race street. These pastors of the Missouri, the largest of its kind in our country, had started to do mis* slonary work in the northwestern part of the city in the fall of 1913 when they temporarily organized the Westwood Lutheran Church, comer Harrison and Cheviot avenues, where the jjostoffice now stands, in June, 1914. Soon after the Board of Home Missions, Central District, called the present pastor, R. Goetz, from New York to bo missionary for Cincinnati.who should serve mainly Westwood. He was installed into office in the Town Hall, November 29, 1914.The congregation was permanently organized a month after, in January, 1915. A Ladies’ Missionary Aid Society was also formed. The Sunday «chool, which had been closed, was re-opened. During the winter and spring of that year the pastor canvassed his new field thoroly, with the result that he now has a list of 260 churchless families, their names and addresses. In accordance with truly Lutheran principles and custom, which ^im at the Christian education and training of the young, Grace Church instituted a regular day school January 3, 1916. Unchurchedparents also have since availed themselves of this school for the everlasting benefit of their children. After a few years of earnest and persistent missionary ‘endeavor, which fellowLutherans acknowledged by supporting the' church most generously, the congregation now points with confidence to its own house of worship, which with God’s blessing attending the preaching of his word only in truth, purity, at no distant date will develop into a completed church.At any rate the congregation trusts that its membership, which has more than doubled, yea, in one respect, tripled Itself since the organization of 1915 has taken place and taken vigorous strides, especially this summer, will certainly increase.Dedication festival service with preaching on Luke xix., 1-10, by Rev. P. Kroencke, at 10 a.m. Special vocal and instrumental music. German services at 3 p.m. with a sermon on Eph. ii., 19-22, by the Rev. P. Schulz. Luncheon in the old quarters, refreshments on the church grounds. Everybody welcome.
